Being a good winner follows some of the same principles as being a good loser. No matter what happens, it’s important to keep your head in the game.
With any win, you want to know how to be able to repeat it. In order to do that, you’ve got to take a step back after a win and analyze how it came about. The lessons you take from your analysis can then be applied to the way you work going forward so that your hard work can take effect and evolve with every challenge you overcome.
When you lose, you never want to pin it on one person or blame your team. In the same way, you want to spread out the credit for the win. Acknowledging your team is an important step after every win.
It may be tempting, as the leader, to say “I led this win,” but it’s far better for your team and their future successes if you take the time to say “hey team, great job, you did the hard work.”
The rule of thumb to keep in mind when it comes to winning is this: treat a win the same way you would a loss. Take a moment afterward to analyze how you got there, extract the information, and apply it to future decisions, so you can repeat the steps that got you there in the first place.
